The Senior Vice President of CVL (Centre for Values in Leadership), Mr. Rasheed Adegbenro in his welcome address to participants called on youths to stop the blame game and get involved in the electoral process. He said that youths should not sit at home behind social media platforms and criticize leaders; when their impact in enshrining good governance, can be achieved with their numerical strength.
He also urged youths to get registered, collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and participate actively in the nation's electoral process.
Guest speaker of the conference, Toyosi Akerele Ogunsiji, Nigerian Social Entrepreneur and Human Development Expert in her presentation called on youths to stand up and be counted while making a difference in our national polity; youth must stand up and unite to ensure that the right thing and right people are supported.
She also advised youths to register with political parties and ensure that the right thing especially the principles of internal democracy and fairness was enshrined in their political party of choice. She urged women to be actively involved in government.
The Convener of #YouthDecide2019, Chukwuma Okenwa, talked about what brought about the vision of #YouthDecide2019, which is mobilize young leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals to change the leadership narratives in 2019 at all levels of the elections.
In his address, he said advised youths to participate actively in societal and community endeavours by ensuring they do positive things to promote human development in the country.
YALI (Young African Leaders Initiative) course; Engaging with candidates and elected official was streamed and participants learnt a lot during the interactive session.
